The Model 401 Waterloo System can be used to obtain groundwater samples, permeability measurements and hydraulic head measurements from many discretely isolated zones in a single borehole.
Detailed, three dimensional groundwater information can be obtained at a reasonable cost when a number of Waterloo Systems are used at a site. Fewer drilled holes are an advantage and monitoring times are reduced.
The Waterloo System is customized for the needs of each project. This allows monitoring zones to be placed at desired depths using options suitable for either bedrock, overburden or combination applications and with either removable or permanent systems.
Discrete zone monitoring is the only way to obtain accurate data for site assessments and interpretation. Transects of multilevels provide the in depth data necessary to calculate mass flux and conservatively assess risk to receptors.
Benefits
Detailed 3D data of flow and concentrations
Flexible design allows users to customize a system for each monitoring project
Isolate and monitor depth discrete zones
Dedicated pumps and transducer
Accurate site characterization
Reduced site disturbance
Reduced long term costs
Applications
Bedrock or Overburden Installations
- Allow monitoring of multiple zones in any geologic setting
Permanent Waterloo Packers
- Engineered for permanent seals
- Excellent in bedrock or cased holes
401 Waterloo multilevel system

The Model 403 Multilevel System is inexpensive, easy to install and most importantly reliable. It provides the user with a clear understanding of three dimensional groundwater flow and the distribution of contaminants in the subsurface. This allows remediation strategies to be targeted more precisely, and efforts being focused in the most effective manner. With use of the CMT Multilevel System, the monitoring of contaminant plumes is affordable. The system provides detailed vertical and horizontal data. The monitoring zones can be set as needed, with the single tube design permitting reliable seals between zones.
There are two systems available. The 3 Channel System, which was developed for smaller diameter installations, has 28mm (1.1”) polyethylene tubing. The 7 Channel System has 43mm (1.7”) tubing, segmented into seven channels, allowing groundwater monitoring at up to 7 depth discrete zones.
Benefits
Install using any drilling method - including direct push
Single tube for effective sealing
Lower cost than multiple wells
Fast and easy to drill and install in one day
Ideal for shallow wells
Applications
Identify vertical as well as horizontal contaminant distribution with transect monitoring
Ideal for shallow wells
Determination of the best location for reactive barrier walls, the Waterloo Emitter and other remediation methodologies
Multilevel water sampling and level monitoring in unconsolidated soils or bedrock
Helps optimize design and performance assessment of remedial option.
Mass transport calculations and mass flux estimation
Monitoring of natural attenuation or remediation processes, and documentation of its effectiveness
VOC, MTBE and Perchlorate monitoring at NAPL sites
Dewatering impact assessments at mining and construction sites
Vapor monitoring with special wellhead seals

800 series low pressure packers

Model 800 Low Pressure Pneumatic Packers
These simple inexpensive packers inflate with a hand pump and are available in 1.8" and 3.7" (46 mm and 94 mm) diameters. Primarily for short term use in 2" and 4" (50 mm and 100 mm) monitoring wells, they can also be used in smooth boreholes and wells with 1.9 - 5" (48 - 127 mm) inside diameters. Typical inflation pressures for the 1.8" (46 mm) packers are from 20 - 40 psi (140 - 275 kPa) above hydrostatic pressure, and from 20 - 30 psi (140 - 205 kPa) for the 3.7" (94 mm) packers.
The Packers utilize a gland of black carbon reinforced rubber (BCR) on a Sch 80 PVC body. They are lowered on flexible low density polyethylene (LDPE) tubing or a rigid PVC drop pipe. If a rigid drop tube is not required for your application, it is recommended to attach a safety line to the eyebolt provided. The Solinst Model 103 Tag Line provides a convenient, graduated support cable that can be used for this purpose, as well as for measuring placement depth. The inflation line of 1/8" (3 mm) low density polyethylene (LDPE) is easily attached using the nylon compression fittings on each packer.
Applications
Isolating discrete zones for short term monitoring:
Water sampling
Hydraulic conductivity testing
Datalogging with a Levelogger
Minimizing purge volumes
Reducing well development time
Slug and pump tests
Injection of tracers, amendments or other materials
Air sparging (low pressure)
